Journal Entry: Robert LaSalle

February 19th, 2010

Marquette and Jolliet turned back before reaching the end of the Mississippi.  Robert LaSalle followed in their footsteps, determined to navigate the river to its end.

You are to write an entry into LaSalle’s journal about the day his expedition arrives at the mouth of the Mississippi.  What are his emotions as he looks out into the vast body of water that is the Gulf of Mexico?   Has it been worth the journey?  He now knows the river is not the Northwest Passage.  But is the land still worthwhile to the French?

Please use complete sentences.
